Page 9 - All fingers and thumbs....

My wolf was once again able to locate his tracks and we followed them through the trees coming upon a small clearing as we did so. In the centre of the clearing lay Ebben, grievously wounded by what I am convinced now is definitely a bear but most disturbingly someone had cut, with deliberate malice the fingers and thumbs from both of his hands!

In spite of the grusome nature of the counstables wounds I sprang into action using my healing magic to staunch his bleeding. His eyelids fluttered and he croaked ‘help me, help me… the Burrens… the Burrens!’ before he fell unconscious. We all agrred that we should follow the tracks for a while longer in an attempt to corner our foe before heading back to Tristor with as much haste as we could summon. Brother James lifted the mutilated man easily in his arms and we carried him back to his horse where Bohun climbed up into the saddle and Brother James passed up poor Ebben to him.

Once again we followed the tracks of the man and bear into the countryside. We had been travelling some few miles when I heard a sound coming from further up our trail. Telling Bohun and Brother James to wait I went to investigate, creeping into the tree line. Sadly I could not find anything and I emerged again some distance further down the trail… Just in time to witness Bohun behead first one and then with a reverse sweep of his exotic blade the head of yet another Orc.

Grey wolf and I charged in, attacking the Orcs from behind and pinning them between Brother James, Bohun and ourselves. The attack must have caught them by surprise as my wolf knocked one of them flat on his face and savaged his neck... killing the creature outright. Two of the creatures tried to run now that the odds were against them but Were cut down as they fled by Bohun and Brother James.

The last Orc slashed swung his axe cutting into Grey wolf's flank and as he did Brother James launched his lightning fast fists and a swinging roundhouse kick knocking him deeply unconcscious. Quiet again descended on the woodland road.
